Collecting Romaine Seeds

Often times gardeners will pinch blooms and or pull leafy veggies and herbs at the end of their vegetative cycle. When leafy veggies and herbs (lettuce, spinach, dill, cilantro just to name a few) begin to bolt, or elongate and start their reproductive cycle, they no longer put energy towards making new leaves. Which generally leads to to pinching the blooms to attempt to get a couple more weeks of leaf growth, or pulling of the plant to make room for another.
However, if space is not an issue I encourage you to let the plant go to bloom. I do this as much as possible in my garden for two reasons. First, I’m a beekeeper so the more flowers I can produce for my bees the better! Secondly, after the bees are done pollinating them they will set seed which you can harvest and grow new plants! It’s like printing your own money!!!
