Air Plant Care

Tillandsias (aka air plants) are members of the Bromeliad family along with Pineapple and Spanish Moss.
Tillandsias are Epiphytes, which means they attach to the trunks and branches of other plants and typically live with out the need for soil getting most of their water from the humidity in the air. Hence the name air plant! Not to be confused with Parasites, Epiphytes take nothing from the host plant and generally cause no harm to the host plant. The exception being ball moss, which can spread so densely on a tree that it will smother the tree.
Like all bromeliads they will only bloom once in their lifetime. However, the blooms are unique to each species and are absolutely spectacular! Also, after the mother plant blooms it will produce several keiki, or baby plants, at the base of the mother plant!
